This page is a record of the dates of use of known Suffolk postmarks during the dates 1700-1844 and any new items found that are not recorded in the ‘British County Catalogue of Postal History’ Suffolk Edition (BCC), by Willcocks & Jay 2nd Edition 1996 and ‘Suffolk Postal History and Postal Markings to 1844’ by Tom Slemons FRPSL, 2017 (Slemons). To make research easier it is shown in the form of a chart showing previous recorded items for both the BCC and Slemons, with a description/measurements and then the new information at far right.

BCC Cat # Refers to catalogue number in the British County Catalogue, Suffolk Section of 1996
TYPE Refers to the style of handstamp as shown in the back of above catalogue ie two line mileage mark
SLEMONS Cat # Refers to catalogue number in Tom Slemons’ book. Lower numbers will be similar to BCC but stretches to #836 as more sizes have been recorded
DESCRIPTION States what town and type of mark – straight line; two line town name etc
SIZE Physical size of mark in millimeters for length x height.
COLOUR Colour of ink used
BCC Dates Dates of use as seen by BCC
SLEMONS Dates Dates of use seen by Tom Slemons
NEW DATES New found EKU or LKU (earliest known used or latest known used)
NEW FIND? Will be marked as ‘YES’ if the mark is a completely new find and unlisted in either catalogue not just a new EKU or LKU
RARITY Rarity grade as taken from Tom Slemons’ book. ‘A’ being most common and ‘G’ being the rarest.
